There’s a big misconception when it comes to the vegan and plant-based world. Many believe that switching to a vegan diet is an expensive privilege. To me, the reverse is true. In fact, going vegan has actually cut my shopping bill, reduced my reliance on supplements, and stopped me from having massages every week for muscle soreness.

The shopping bill

When my husband and I shifted to a plant-based diet our shopping bill immediately went down. Why? Because meat products are incredibly expensive.

If you don’t believe me, let’s take a look at a comparison. At my local grocery store…

Having watched countless interviews, and studied the world’s most successful authors for years, it’s become clear that just one thing separates good writers from average ones.

Write right.

This one thing is the first and most important step for any would-be writer and almost every well-known author on the planet recommends it. Following this advice will improve your writing as it did mine. It’s the reason I run my own copywriting business and presumably the reason for my viral Medium story. For others, it might mean becoming published authors.

The most important piece of the puzzle has nothing to do with writing…

I’m the last person you’d expect to give up meat and animal products. I grew up on a sheep farm in New Zealand — a country who’s economy relies on animal agriculture. It’s no surprise then, that eating plenty of meat, and drinking a lot of milk are common place.

I lost weight and gained a tonne of energy

For me it was no different. My favourite foods were derived from animals. That means plenty of steak, lamb, seafood, eggs, and dairy milk. I was a ‘healthy’ omnivore however. I ate vegetables, fruits, and whole-grains. I also exercised, drank water, had smoothies for breakfast, and avoided processed food. Trouble…

It’s easier than you think

In late 2020 I had a dream. I wanted to interview the incredible people who had inspired one of my biggest life changes. These people appeared on documentaries, had social media followings in the hundreds of thousands, and they were so unlikely to speak to me: someone with no following at all.

Yet, they did.

In just a few months I interviewed well-known physician Dr. Esselstyn, who featured on documentaries Forks over Knives, What the Health, and, more recently, The Game Changers. Another Game Changer from Cowspiracy, and What the Health, Dr. Klaper also said yes to an interview.

The global pandemic has caused widespread illness, fear, anxiety, and uncertainty. Almost every person, in every country in the world, has experienced some kind of discomfort due to COVID-19, with many suffering in profound ways. Take those who have lost loved ones, are suffering from the illness, or have lost income, and certainty about their future. Then there are those who have missed out on funerals, and been separated from loved ones by strict borders. Further still there are most of us who have missed weddings, overseas holidays, and birthday parties. …

A decision I made in January 2019 would impact me in ways I could never have imagined. A simple switch from a standard western diet to a predominantly plant-based has been one of the biggest life-changes I’ve ever made. Bigger than the time I moved to New York, or London, or Hong Kong. Maybe even as big as getting married to the love of my life.

Going plant-based (and subsequently vegan) is a change that has affected almost every part of my life.

I lost 11 kilograms (24 pounds) after switching to a plant-based diet

The beautiful truth, I discovered is that (after two years of skeptical research and fact-finding) was that…

‘When you want something, the universe conspires in your favour’ — Paulo Coelho

A few years ago the law of attraction swept around the world. First in the form of The Secret; then in the many other books that followed.

At a basic level, the law of attraction can be summed up in five words: whatever you focus upon grows. If you put your energy and focus into the things you want, then you will see them appear in your life. As Bob Proctor says, “if you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand.”

I lost faith in formal meditation on a flight from Melbourne to Hong Kong. I was in a state of fully-fledged anxiety that had been present for the past three days and had no signs of it letting up. While I attempted to cure my anxiety with mindfulness, my meditation practice actually made me feel even more anxious.

It didn’t matter whether I tried to slow down my thoughts, or just sat with my thoughts and listened, or whether I attempted to be particularly present in the aeroplane listening to the sounds and seeing what was around me. Feeling the…

Meditation is in vogue. Ellen does it. Oprah does it. Jeffrey Weiner, Bill Ford and Arianna Huffington do it. Even your Aunt Cheryl’s doing it and she’s definitely not “spiritual” — she’s never even been to Bali.

Having a meditation practice seems a little to me like having a gym membership — it’s fashionable and it’s healthy, but there are only a few motivated exceptional people who really stick to it. The rest of us are back to eating doughnuts on the couch two weeks into January.

If you are struggling with a meditation practice, I’m here to tell you…
