My husband and I hosted a games night recently.

I sensed that our guests were a little hesitant as we pulled out the game Articulate.

They’d played it before.

And hated it.

But it was nothing to do with the game they later confessed. It was that they’d played it with hyper-competitive people. Every ounce of fun had been sucked out of the experience.

With us it was different.

I don’t remember who had the best answers, or who won the game.

All I recall is that we were all in fits of laughter all night.

I used to be super competitive

Not so long ago, I would have been frustrated if I didn’t win. And it probably would have sucked––at least some of––the fun out of that evening.

I had a very competitive mindset and hated to lose.

When I met my husband, one of the first things I noticed about him was that he didn’t feel the need to compete with others.

It was refreshing.

Over time I’ve learned from him. I’ve found that when we play for the sake of it…
