Job loyalty is overrated: this is better

My resume reads like an all-day pub crawl. Genuinely, my work experience is a round-the-world trip of producer roles in various agencies with a law degree and a year at design school thrown in for good measure.

Yet, I’ve always found myself in demand.

I’ve proven I can get a job in just about any country on the planet. And getting a job quickly has never been an issue.

Here’s the secret: I’ve never been judged for a lack of company loyalty.

If anything, my varying resume is the very reason I’ve been able to get jobs wherever the wind has taken me.

Job loyalty isn’t impressive

Contrary to popular belief, job loyalty doesn't tell employers that you’re a great catch. Sure, companies like you to stick around, but there are some who prefer boldness.

Strict job loyalty tells some employers:

  • You’re afraid of taking risks
  • You don’t like getting out of your comfort zone
  • You don’t take your career into your own hands
  • You’re not a doer.

I’m not for a second saying that all loyal people lack these traits, simply that a diverse resume is evidence that you could have these attributes.
