I don’t know about you, but I’ve been finding this whole pandemic thing a tad bit anxiety-inducing. At first, I liked lockdowns and the chance to focus inwards. Watching the world slow down was calming.

But when things went back to normal and we all were told to “live with it” I began to feel less comfortable.

Taoist teachings are seriously chill

Unexpectedly, Taoism is helping me to go with the flow more. The ancient philosophy of Taoism originated in China 2,500 years ago and it’s based on three key ideologies: inaction, simplicity, and living in harmony with nature.

Taoists believe that we get too caught up in the little details of life. Instead, they opt for non-action or a state of flow — acting in accordance with nature, rather than resisting it.

Think of yourself as water

From what I’ve learned, anxiety comes from two things: worrying about the future coupled with the desire to control future outcomes.

Unfortunately, as much as we can attract positive experiences, there is much out of our control, and releasing anxiety means releasing the desire to control the future.
