For most, being 23 means finding one’s way in the world. Perhaps studying, starting a career, and trying new relationships. For Lexie Alford, 23 years old was the age she broke a Guinness World Record –– becoming the youngest person to travel to every country in the world.

Regardless of how she did it, (six years of saving, three years of travelling, and growing up with a mother who owned a travel agency to name a few), Lexie learned one important life hack.

While travelling through countries perceived as dangerous––like Afghanistan,
The Central African Republic, Iraq, and Libya––particularly for a solo woman, Lexie discovered that there was only one thing she could control.

Her learning is something we can all adopt in our own lives.

Regardless of whether you’re travelling the world, or living in the same neighbourhood you grew up in, things will occur that are completely out of your control.

There is only one thing in life you can control

Lexie of her travels said, “The only thing you can control is your mindset”. And she’s right.
