He was one of the most well-known spiritual leaders in the world.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called him “an apostle of peace and nonviolence.”

And if that wasn’t a big enough accolade, he was also nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

What can the life and lessons of Hanh teach us? Let’s look at some of his most meaningful quotes.

Moving past fear

Hahn spoke about fear a lot — he even wrote a book on the topic.

That’s because fear is one of the biggest drivers in our lives. And, for the most part, it’s an unhelpful driver.

In his words:

Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones.

On the miracle of life

How many of us are sleepwalking through life, never noticing how miraculous it all is?
