Meditation is known for being challenging. If you’ve tried it, then you know how difficult and frustrating it can be.

After meditating, we don’t always feel better. And while we meditate, we finally have to face our emotions — something we’d often rather avoid.

But the incredible power of meditation can’t be overlooked.

Meditation fundamentally changes your brain

Studies have found that those who meditate have fundamentally different brains from those who don’t.

Meditators’ brains tend to be enlarged in several places including those involved in self-awareness, self-regulation, and attention.

Brain changes after just 8 weeks of meditating

Incredibly these changes can take place quickly.

In a study, stressed and anxious, but otherwise healthy participants did an 8-week mindfulness meditation program. By the end, functional changes occurred in multiple areas of the participant’s brains — similar to what one would see with long-term meditators.
