Why I Studied Law But Never Wanted To Be A Lawyer
You don’t have to do what everyone expects of you
Law students aren’t nice people.
One of our professors told us that.
Law students don’t share their notes. They don’t like studying together. They don’t want anyone to win but themselves.
It’s no wonder why.
On our first day of Law School, in a room of 500, we were told to look to the person on our left.
“Only one of you will make it here next year,” they told us.
Fewer than half of the original class made it to year two.
And everyone who got there made it on their own.
But that’s not why I didn’t become a lawyer
The thing is, I loved Law School.
Even with all its competitiveness and pretentiousness.
I loved learning about cases.
I loved learning how the legal system works.
And how to debate a case.
And how to consider topics from different perspectives.
